Life can get a little crazy sometimes, but I wouldn't have it any other way!

Life is Unpredictable and Full of Change

The older I get the more I realize the truth of this statement. It is hard to believe that summer started just a short two weeks ago. I was nervous, but excited for this summer because it was to be the first where I didn't have much planned except working, and my hours promised to be easy and fun. I planned on having Friday's off, and was going to use that free time to accomplish my long awaited to do list, and just relax. I was even hoping to visit my favorite place on earth, Disneyland, not once but twice. Life had different plans though, and decided to throw in a curve ball on the first Friday of the summer.

My friend and I went to go meet with my boss, Andrew, to ask him what he wanted us to do over the summer, and he surprised us by telling me that he had accepted another job position and would be leaving in a little over a week. I was the first person he told, and I will admit I was a little in shock. I had a hard time comprehending what was going on. I have been his "2nd in command" for a little over a year now, and he stated repeatedly that "I was the only person who knew everything that goes into the orientations." My mind raced with questions the entire weekend long, I had no idea what this announcement would mean. My plans of a easy relaxing summer quickly flew out the window. This "little" announcement started a whirlwind that has yet to slow down. I have been pulled into his position until a new director can be found, and trained, which means my laid back summer has turned into a full time, 40 hours a week, real job.

Today was my first full day without him there, and I have to admit I loved it! I didn't love not having him around, in fact I missed him quite a bit, but I loved the job itself. I never realized how much I love the environment in higher education, and this entire experience may have prompted a change in plans after graduation... As for right now I am perfectly content with my little opportunity to experience what it is like to work in higher education.

This photo was taken on Andrew very last orientation (He is the one in the front with the glasses). This is the group I get to work with all summer long. One great group of people if you ask me! We will sure miss Andrew!!!
